Europe to Get Audi TT RS Plus, U.S. Yawns

By | November 02, 2011
Don't get us wrong here, Audi doing anything these days gets us pretty excited, so when we hear that Europe is getting a "plus" version of the already awesome 2012 Audi TT RS, our inquisitive prowess demanded answers. In an almost refreshing rarity these days, we were surprised to find out that in this case, Europe was just getting up to speed with America. While the Audi R8 is a supercar built to run with the bulls, the Audi TT is the German automaker's sports coupe for the earthly. The TTS kicks up performance and trim, and the TT RS is the top of the line, boasting a 2.5-liter five-cylinder capable of producing 360-hp, and a 0-60 mph time of just 4.3 seconds. Throwing a "plus" on the end of this seems a promise of more, but in actuality the European TT RS has 340-hp, 20 hp shy of our domestic version. The European TT RS Plus will add the 20 hp to match the U.S. spec TT RS, meaning the plus is our regular TT RS, illustrated in the equation below: European Audi TT RS + Plus = American Audi TT RS. Automotive.com's take: Not to be smug, but we've got a little satisfactory smirk hidden away— for once we're not getting the short end of the throttle. Source: Audi
