Exotics Roundup: 2013 New York International Auto Show

Paragraphimage The 2013 New York International Auto Show had some great debuts and surprises like the new 2014 Camaro Z/28. Of the more everyday cars that held a debut, the most notable was the 2014 Honda Odyssey with its new HondaVAC. Of the exotic vehicles that had a debut, most of the cars won't be seen in showrooms until later this year, and some will have a limited quantity. We've compiled a list of the best exotic debuts, and although some have already made their initial debut in Geneva, here are the vehicles that made their North American debut at the 2013 New York Auto Show.

Jaguar XKR-S GT

The Jaguar XKR-S GT was developed by the automaker's ETO division, and is the ultimate road- and track-ready version of the XK coupe.  Only 30 vehicles will be produced in the North American market, making it the rarest "R" model in the history of Jaguar R performance cars. Evolved from the XKR-S coupe, the GT features aerodynamic components and suspension developments to increase downforce and optimize the vehicle's high-speed cornering abilities. As a first for Jaguar, the XKR-s GT will feature a carbon ceramic brake system. The new GT uses a newly developed front and rear suspension with a wider front track, new steering system, and faster steering ratio, all developed from the new F-TYPE two-seater sports car. The new Jaguar XKR-S GT delivers a top speed of 186 mph, and goes from 0 to 60 in 3.9 seconds. Paragraphimage

Bentley Flying Spur

Bentley furthers the success of the previous Flying Spur with the new model, combining driveability, luxury and craftsmanship, and state-of-the-art technology. The new Flying Spur features a new athletic design that uses traditional Bentley styling cues as well as contemporary details. The Flying Spur is powered by a 6.0-liter twin-turbo W-12 engine, with a ZF eight-speed transmission.  With 616 horsepower, the new Flying Spur can do 0 to 60 in 4.3 seconds, with a top speed of 200 mph. Arriving in showrooms during the second quarter of the year, the new Bentley Flying Spur will have a starting price of $200,500. Combined with the Mulsanne and Continental GT Speed convertible, Bentley will have its strongest model line-up ever for 2013. Paragraphimage

Rolls-Royce Wraith

Although it made its official debut at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, the Rolls-Royce Wraith is still making waves. As the most powerful Rolls-Royce yet, the new Wraith delivers 624 brake horsepower, going from 0 to 60 in 4.4 seconds. Debuting along with the vehicle is the company's Satellite Aided Transmission, which uses the GPS mapping data to preselect the correct gear for the road ahead. The cars suspension has been tuned to minimize body roll and amplify feedback when cornering, and steering weight is heavier at high speeds and lighter at low speeds to add to the driving experience. Pricing for the new Rolls-Royce Wraith will be available later in the year, with the vehicle expected to go on sale in the last quarter of 2013. Paragraphimage

Porsche 911 GT3

The completely redeveloped Porsche 911 GT3 shows off its sporty design, benefiting from a new engine, transmission, body, and chassis. When tested on the Nurburgring, the 911 GT3 had an impressive lap time of less than 7 minutes and 30 seconds around the 17-mile track. As an everyday driver the GT3 has active rear-wheel steering for the first time and a direct-injected 3.8-liter six-cylinder boxer engine, delivering 475 horsepower. Another change Porsche made for the new GT3 is the switch from three pedals to two. There will still be paddle shifters on the steering wheel for those who want to shift, but Porsche has completely dropped the manual transmission from this model to make room for the dual-clutch seven-speed transmission. Expect the Porsche 911 GT3 to have a starting price of $131,350 when it hits showroom floors later in the year. Paragraphimage

Shelby Raptor

The Shelby Raptor marks the return of the Shelby muscle truck, based off the 2013 Ford SVT Raptor with enhanced power and handling. This is one of the most powerful and collectable off-road production trucks, and features the "Shelby Style" inside and out. With a 2.9-liter supercharger mounted on the 6.2-liter V8 engine, the Shelby Raptor produces 575 horsepower, a significant increase from the stock 411 horsepower. Pricing for the post-title package will start at $17,995, but it will not include the base Raptor. Only 100 of the Shelby Raptors will be built per model year, and each will be number and documented with a unique Shelby CSM number and entered in the official Shelby Registry. Paragraphimage

Shelby 1000

The 2013 Shelby 1000 S/C, with 1,200 horsepower is the most powerful production car on the list. Built upon the 2012 Ford Shelby GT500 that offers 662 horsepower, the completely street-legal Shelby 1000 has Ford's new 5.8-liter V8 that has been stripped down to strengthen the internals and the power has been cranked up. A finely tuned adjustable suspension and performance cooling package have been combined with big brakes to outperform other exotics with prices more than three times its cost. Starting at $154,995, only 100 will be built, and each will be numbered and documented in the official Shelby Registry, like the Shelby Raptor. Paragraphimage

SRT Viper TA

Rounding out our list of exotic debuts for the 2013 New York Auto Show is the exclusive, street-legal 2014 SRT Viper TA. It builds upon the on-track capabilities of the American supercar, using components from SRT to create a balanced package that is designed for extreme performance. Only 33 vehicles in the special "TA Orange" exterior paint color will be available later this year. The Viper TA is powered by a handcrafted, all-aluminum 8.4-liter, mid-front V-10 overhead valve engine, which produces 640 horsepower and 600 lb.-ft. of torque, the most torque of any naturally aspirated sports-car engine in the world. Beginning in the third quarter of the year, the 2014 SRT Viper TA will be built at the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit.
