First Production 2013 SRT Viper to be Auctioned Off for Charity

While it isn't due out until later this year, you have a chance to get the 2013 SRT Viper before everyone else. The very first production Viper is heading straight to the auction block, going to the highest bidder at the Barret-Jackson car auction in Orange County, Calif. this Saturday. All proceeds will go directly to the Austin Hatcher Foundation and while pricing for the all-new 2013 SRT Viper hasn't been announced yet, we're expecting Chrysler to slap a price tag on that's in the neighborhood of $95,000. “We are extremely grateful for this opportunity with SRT, Chrysler and Barrett-Jackson,” Said Jim Osborn, Chairman of the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer.  “Monies raised through the auction of the 2013 SRT Viper will directly fund services that empower families to live happy, meaningful and successful lives as pediatric cancer survivors.” The 2013 Viper is a coming-out party of sorts for Chrysler's Street and Racing Technology division. SRT branched off on its own recently, and Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne saw fit to give the newly-formed division sole possession of the Viper. The 2013 SRT Viper comes after the original Dodge Viper went on a two year hiatus while Chrysler got its' financial affairs in order back in 2009. Prior Viper models were known to lack anything resembling quality in the interior, but that's no longer the case. Under the leadership of Marchionne, SRT redesigned the Viper's interior to match the car's lofty price tag. Leather seats and a navigation system are all included, compared to previous Viper models that were barren to say the least. Under the hood, an 8.4-liter V-10 engine rated at 640 horsepower will bring the Viper up to speed in little time. For the first time in its 21 year production run, the Viper will feature traction control, but only because it's now a requirement that every new vehicle sold in the United States includes it. The Austin Hatcher Foundation provides families with children who have been diagnosed with cancer specialized interventions throughout the duration of treatment.
