Fisker Atlantic Photos Leaked Online Ahead of New York Debut

Perhaps you were wondering what greenie-posturing celebrities would be driving next after their fleets of Toyota Prius, Tesla Roadster, and diesel Mercedes-Benz products ran out. The answer will likely be the Fisker Atlantic. The hybrid sports sedan, formerly known as the Fisker "Nina," dropped cover over the weekend ahead of its debut this week in New York, courtesy of Czech website and notoriously wide-open sieve Supposedly half as pricey as the $107,000 2012 Fisker Karma, the Fisker Atlantic is a smaller four-seater that will come in at an anticipated $50,000, give or take, and have two power sources: a battery-electric motor and a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine sourced from BMW. Much like the Karma, the Atlantic will run completely on electric power, or it will use the gas engine as a generator to drive the rear-wheel drive electric motor. No performance specs have been released yet, but we anticipate it to be quicker than the 5,600-pound Karma, which can reach 60 mph from standstill in about 6 seconds.
Fisker has come under a recent flurry of controversy, as the company took part of what was to be a $429 million U.S. Department of Energy loan to get going with its Finnish-made first sedan. That money dried up, however, forcing the new automaker to seek other sources of cashflow to keep going. There have also been reliability issues, as widely announced in Consumer Reports' malfunctioning Karma sedan. Since then, the company has instituted a "SWAT team" to more quickly pinpoint potential quality issues in its startup products. When speaking with a Fisker spokesperson, he said the Atlantic would be headed to production, although a model year was not given at the time. We'll better find out when the Atlantic is headed to production, as it's slated to be the first Fisker product made in the automaker's Wilmington, Delaware facility. Source: via Motor Trend
