Ford Ads Attempt to Distinguish 2013 Fusion from Midsize Pack

The Ford Fusion is one of the best-selling cars in America, but in recent months, the competition has gotten the better of Ford's family sedan. In an effort to showcase the new 2013 Ford Fusion, Ford is calling out the competition by suggesting there is none. A new series of ads look to showcase the Fusion's new front-end styling and abundance of available combinations, which Ford believes paces the 2013 Fusion ahead of the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord, the two best-selling midsize cars in America, which are often derided for their bland styling. Jim Farley, group vice president, global marketing, sales and service, says the Fusion will exhibit "how Ford will shake up the bland midsize sedan segment. Why do car buyers have to sacrifice styling and forward-looking design for fuel economy? They don't." We're not sure if the new Fusion is necessarily "forward-looking," but it does look good, and better than the previous model. In recent months, the highly-styled Korean midsize sedans--the Hyundai Sonata and the Kia Optima--have outsold the Fusion, but that could change as dealerships receive more 2013 Ford Fusion models. The success of the 2013 Ford Fusion will also largely bank on various fuel-saving powertrains; in addition to two four-cylinder EcoBoost options, the Fusion can be powered by hybrid and plug-in hybrid options.
