Ford Focus May Best Toyota Corolla in Sales Worldwide for 2012

The Toyota Corolla is one of the best-selling compact cars in the world. It may soon lose its crown, though, from rival Ford. Ford's secret weapon? The Ford Focus. Although the Corolla handily outsells the Focus in the U.S. market, the situation is different worldwide. According to IHS Global, Ford has so far sold almost 27,000 more Focus sedans and hatchbacks globally over the Toyota Corolla in the first half of 2012. Toyota, on the other hand, sold nearly 27,500 more Corollas over the Focus here in the states for the same period of time. We've driven the Ford Focus and while we found the suspension quite sporty, acceleration with the its automatic transmission felt sluggish. Other vehicles in IHS global sales list include the Ford Fiesta subcompact and the F-150 pick up. The Toyota Camry, the best selling mid-sized sedan in the U.S., places sixth place in terms of sales worldwide.
