Ford Offers Up Performance Academy Ahead of 2013 Focus ST Debut

By Jacob Brown | May 30, 2012
The 2013 Ford Focus ST, a 252-horsepower, high-performance compact car, has been hotly anticipated in making its U.S. debut since the original version launched in Europe in 2005. The car goes on sale in the U.S. carrying ultra-high expectations with it. But before it hits showrooms, Ford doesn't seem to want to downplay the car's hype. It's actually pouring more gas on the flames, offering up what it calls the 2013 Ford Focus Performance Academy, allowing enthusiasts in five major cities the opportunity to try it before they buy it. In the Performance Academy, Ford will be providing driving instructors to teach drivers how to get the most out of the Focus ST. Then, drivers will be let out to try their newfound skills on an autocross circuit, racing against other drivers' lap times. “Our fans have expressed extremely high interest in this car, but we know the proof is in the pudding,” says Lisa Schoder, the Ford Focus ST's marketing manager, in a statement. “We want ST fans, as well as drivers of competitive vehicles, to be able to taste this car firsthand." The Performance Academy will be a one-day event in each city, running from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the given locations on the given dates:
  • New York, IZOD Center—June 30
  • Washington, D.C., FedEx Field—July 14
  • Boston, Gillette Stadium—July 21
  • San Francisco, Candlestick Park—August 4
  • Los Angeles, Dodgers Stadium—August 11
If you're interested in signing up for one of the events, be sure to register at the Drive Focus ST website. If you don't live near any of the locations, the $25,245 Ford Focus ST should be on sale well before it gets snowy again, allowing customers to see if this 252-horsepower hype machine lives up to its promise while the land is still dry and unsalted.
