Ford Recalls 101 2012 F-150s, 2013 F-150 Caught Testing Without Camouflage
Ford has issued a recall for 101 2012 Ford F-150 light-duty trucks with concerns over the frontal airbag sensor and control module. The incorrect software for the occupant classification system module was installed at the time of production or during a service repair in which module replacements were installed. Trucks assembled from November 6, 2011 to November 15, 2011 are believed to be affected by this recall. If the module sensor is acting up, it has trouble distinguishing if someone is in the passenger's seat. In turn, the faulty OCSM will cause the airbag to not deploy when needed or just deploy on a whim. As consequence, it increases the chances of an injury to the front passenger in the event of an accident. To remedy the situation, Ford will begin notifying customers and dealerships and replace the OCSM free of charge. Ford intends to begin the recall campaign on May 21, 2012 but concerned owners can contact the automaker directly at (866)-436-7332. The Ford recall reference number is 12S31. Concerned owners may also contact the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration at (888) 327-4236.As for the 2012 Ford F-150's successor, the 2013 F-150, it has been spotted by our spy photographers again, but this time without camouflage adorning it's front-end. This time around, the latest F-150 variant's front-end and passenger's side doors and paneling are much easier to see. The photo above gives way to familiar headlights and body-lines seen on the current year F-150. The FX4 and XLT models did receive a grille with a "C-clamp" design, similar to what's already on the Super Duty line-up, and the top-of-the-line Lariat will sport a new three-bar grille. Other details, such as interior upgrades or powertrain changes, are sparse for now. However, we do know this facelift will be the F-150's last before getting a total overhaul in 24 to 28 months from now Source: NHTSA, Automobile Magazine
