Ford Recalls Additional 27,000 Windstar Minivans in Virginia

By Jacob Brown | May 09, 2012
Ford has added 27,000 Windstar minivans from 1998 to 2003 model years to its list of more than 600,000 to fix the vans' rear axles. The original recall issued in 2010 involved Ford Windstar minivans made between September 1, 1997, and July 3, 2003, and was sent to owners in states with winter weather where road salt could crack the vans' rear axles. Originally, Virginia was not included in the recall. But there have been reports of 11 axle cracks between October 2011 and March 2012, prompting the automaker to expand the recall. With the Ford Windstar's rear axle rusting through and cracking, it could cause the minivans to lose control without notice, potentially causing an accident. Ford will notify owners of affected vehicles in Virginia beginning June 18. Owners of affected vehicles looking for more information can contact Ford's customer service hotline at (866) 436-7332 with reference to Ford campaign numberĀ 10S13, or owners can call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Safety Hotline at (888) 327-4236 with refenced to campaign numberĀ 12V193000.
