Fourth Recall for 2013 Ford Fusion, 2013 Ford Escape 1.6-Liter EcoBoost Engine

By Jacob Brown | December 03, 2012
The Ford Motor Company is once again recalling the 1.6-liter turbocharged EcoBoost four-cylinder engine that sits under the hood of both the 2013 Ford Escape crossover and 2013 Ford Fusion midsize sedan. Ford cites overheating and fires as the cause of this recall, the fourth for the turbocharged 1.6-liter engine since it was introduced int he Escape earlier this year. The recall affects 73,320 2013 Ford Escape and 15,833 2013 Ford Fusion models, all of them either SE or SEL trims. Right now, the recall is voluntary; Ford says no one has been reported as injured in any vehicle as a result of the engine overheating. And 2.5-liter four cylinder engines, EcoBoost 2.0-liter four-cylinder engines, and any hybrid powertrains that may be found in either vehicle are not subject to the recall. Ford is working on a repair procedure, and will notify owners of the fix as soon as it becomes available. However, Ford's customer service line can be reached at (866) 436-7332 in the U.S. and (888) 222-7814 in Canada. Ford will fix the engines free of charge at local dealerships and may offer loaner vehicles free of charge to customers concerned about driving their vehicles.
Similar issues have cropped up over the past year, as Ford has diligently moved forward to bring its new, small-displacement turbocharged EcoBoost four-cylinder engines to the market. With new technology comes some inevitable teething; we're just hoping this is the last of it. Source: Ford
