Ford Taurus X: Does New SUV Mark Sweet Spot for Ford?

By Joel Arellano | February 28, 2007
Truck Trend Blog details the 2008 Ford Taurus X SUV which debuted at the Chicago Auto Show last month. The Taurus X is a full-sized SUV that can seat up to seven people in its three-rows. Exterior design and changes are borrowed from the X’s smaller sibling, the Edge. These include redesigned headlamps and the unifying three-bar chrome grill which was first seen on the Ford Fusion sedan. Yet the X comes also equipped with roof racks to match the new, more rugged-looking, Escape. Power’s provided by a 3.5 liter V-6 engine. Though generating 30 percent more power than last year’s model (under the old “Ford Freestyle” moniker”), modifications have made it just as fuel-efficient. Pricing information will be released later this year. Other details like the flip-and-fold second row seats and the “Sync” entertainment system by Microsoft can be found at the post. Our take? The Toyota Highlander and Honda Pilot are considered the segment leaders for full-sized SUVs. Though we’re still waiting to do some test drives, we suspect that all three will be quite competitive in features while Ford will beat both in pricing.
