Ford Trucks Get Recalled, Big And Small: Escape, F-650, F-750
The 2013 Ford Escape may be brand-new, but in a bit of awkward press, it's already getting a recall. About 8,266 examples of the newly-minted crossover—built from March 8th to June 7th of this year—are being sent back: evidently, the carpet swathing the center console is too thickly padded, which can reduce the driver's foot clearance to the pedals Not life-threatening stuff, but Ford, like any manufacturer, thinks of the worst possible case scenario involving fire and destruction: "the reduced clearance may result in the driver’s foot contacting the side of the brake pedal," says the NHTSA, "while transferring the foot from the accelerator pedal to the brake pedal, increasing stopping distances and the risk of a crash." Ford will replace the center console for free when the recall begins on July 23rd.Meanwhile, on 783 Ford F-650 and F-750 commercial trucks, there's not enough glue on the windshields, which doesn't take an experienced Pinewood Derby builder to tell you that's potentially dangerous. Ford will replace the windshields for free after July 16th. Questions? You can reach Ford at 1-866-436-7332, citing Ford campaign numbers 12S34 and 12S33 for the Escape and commercial trucks, respectively. You can also call the NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236. Source: NHTSA
