Fun-Size to Full-Size: Chevrolet Camaro Hot Wheels Edition Goes on Sale in Early 2013

Have you ever wished you could drive one of your Hot Wheels toy cars when you were younger? GM is now letting you have that chance with the 2013 ChevroletCamaro Hot Wheels edition slated to go on sale in early 2013. This example is the first time that any automaker has turned a Hot Wheels variant into a full-size production replica.  Just like the 1:64-scale toy version, the life-size Camaro comes with distinguishable exterior styling cues but, unfortunately, no orange race track is available for it. The Chevrolet Camaro Hot Wheels edition was first shown off today at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas. Chevy has announced that this Camaro Hot Wheels edition will become available for public consumption early next year. However, you have to act fast is you want one because once they're gone, they're gone for good. The Camaro Hot Wheels edition will be on a limited run and if you have the money to collect full-size cars like kids do with toy versions, than by all means. The Hot Wheels inspired Camaro will be available as either a convertible or coupe and your choice of a 2LT or 2SS model. If you opt for the 2LT model, you'll get a 3.6-liter V-6 engine rated at 323 horsepower; your other option is a 6.2-liter V-8 engine and 400 horsepower. Both engines can be mated to your choice of a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. A dual-mode exhaust system can be added on to either the SS or LT trim level no matter what gearbox you've chosen. This system is similar to that found on the ZL1, and helps keep engine noise down when at a crawl, while still letting it get more rowdy during a hard acceleration.
The full-size Chevrolet Camaro Hot Wheels edition features styling cues that mimic the die-cast version, including a ZL1 rear spoiler and front upper grille; a ground effects package; a two-tone matte hood graphic; and a blackout taillight panel graphic. Possibly the most notable exterior styling cues include the Hot Wheels logo on the Camaro's fender and trunk lid as well as 21-inch black wheels that even include the famous red stripe that runs around the lip of the rim. Inside, black leather seats with red and black stitching and the Hot Wheels logo adorning the seat back. The door panels and inserts are also black to keep pace with the overall toy car interior vibe and floor mats with the Camaro's logo lined the floor. If you're seriously interested in this package, it'll set you back an additional $6,995 on top of the car itself. Not too shabby if your life's dream has been to drive a full-size Hot Wheels toy car replica. Chevy will begin taking orders for the Hot Wheels Camaro starting on November 1.
