General Motors Expands Chevy Lineup with All-New Chevrolet SS Model

By Joel Arellano | May 17, 2012
Chevrolet announced today the addition of an all-new sedan to its lineup. Tentatively called the Chevrolet SS, the new sedan will go on sale sometime in late 2013 as a 2014 model. Relevant details, like size (can it truly fit three adults in the rear row?), fuel economy (fuel sipper or gas guzzler?), and pricing (am I getting a bang for my hard-earned bucks?) have not been released. What is known -- V-8 engine, rear-wheel drive, and performance-oriented -- has car enthusiasts all over the autosphere pulling up details on the Chevrolet Camaro and the next-gen Holden Commodore which the Chevrolet SS will most likely be based on. Racing fans, take note. The Chevrolet SS will be Chevy's next racecar at NASCAR, showing off its racing duds at next year's Daytona 500. States Mark Reuss, president of GM North America, "As a passionate race fan and performance enthusiast, I am thrilled that Chevrolet will deliver a true rear-wheel-drive NASCAR racecar in the SS that is very closely linked to the performance sedan that will be available for sale." Automotive.com's take: We first became aware of the SS' return last month and brushed it off as another car enthusiast's wish fulfillment. GM's announcement makes it real; however, we're troubled that the Chevrolet SS is scheduled for "limited production" which usually means a niche vehicle. Does GM need yet another "halo car" -- and their limited sales potential -- to add to its dealerships? Source: General Motors / Chevrolet

Wow! I've always been a GM guy, everything I ever raced was GM powered but this is a boxy, ugly shitbox when compared to Ford and Dodge's beautiful 2013 entries, VERY SAD EFFORT !!!! Guess it's time to buy a Hemi Challenger over a trick camaro. That car is as ugly as the current COT and even with normal paint has NO distinctve lines or look to it, your really going to look like crap against the other makes. Someone who makes big $$$ made this decision ? How funny, obama motors at it's best!
