General Motors issues recall for potential oil leaks

Well, this is something General Motors didn't need right now. "This" refers to a recall, a 1.5 million vehicle one at that. Per CNN Money: CNN) -- The possibility of engine fires has prompted General Motors to recall nearly 1.5 million passenger sedans manufactured between 1997 and 2003, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced Monday. The recall covers certain mid- and full-size passenger sedans under GM's (GM, Fortune 500) Chevrolet, Buick, Oldsmobile and Pontiac brands. Full details can be found at the original article. Our take? The automotive press and pundits are having a field day with this piece of news. This is despite the fact most of the vehicles involved are no longer manufactured and GM's quality has improved in recent years. (Buick, anyone?) Yeah, one can argue those vehicles are still on the road, but if they were that bad, wouldn't their owners have already gotten rid of them?
