GM Offers Free One-Year Auto Insurance on New Vehicles in Oregon and Washington

By Trevor Dorchies | July 06, 2011
In an effort to gauge consumer interest, GM is making auto insurance a standard feature on all new 2010, 2011, and 2012 models it offers in Oregon and Washington through September 6. In partnership with MetLife Home & Auto, all Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac vehicles sold until September 6 will come with a one-year insurance policy at no additional cost. For now, the free insurance incentive is only being offered to residences in Washington and Oregon. Proof of residency is required with a valid driver’s license and vehicle title issued in either state. After the policy expires in a year the vehicle owner can renew the insurance or go elsewhere for coverage. The auto insurance includes liability and physical damage coverage. “We want to give residents of Oregon and Washington another reason to discover Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac vehicles,” said Chris Perry, U.S. vice president of General Motors Marketing.  “We have new products like the Chevrolet Cruze, Buick Regal, GMC Terrain and Cadillac CTS Coupe that are now even more appealing with a year’s worth of insurance.” The policy covers the new vehicle and anyone who drives it with the owner’s permission for a full year. However, if the original buyer decides to get rid of the vehicle before the one year mark the agreement is voided even if another GM vehicle is purchased. The policy is not available on vehicles purchased or leased for certain commercial or fleet purposes.
