Head 2 Head: 2013 Ford Focus ST vs. 2012 Volkswagen Golf R
Earlier this year when we had a chance to drive the European version of the Volkswagen Golf R, and it seemed all was right with the world. The Golf R is planted, piles into corners with verve and confidence, and the all-wheel-drive is exceptional. About the only thing we're missing, is the bottle opener that is situated in the center storage area of the European-spec model. Starting at $35,360, the Golf R is not cheap to get in to, either. We haven't driven the 2013 Ford Focus ST yet, but we're shocked at the similarities: the Focus ST also uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, and its 252 hp almost equals that of the Golf R's 256. Both hatchback's use a six-speed manual transmission, and are enthusiast-minded. And while we haven't jumped into the Focus ST, our colleagues over at our sister outlet—Motor Trend—recently pitted the two against each other. What did they think? You'll have to watch the newest episode of Head 2 Head, to find out.
