Head 2 Head Episode 4: Super Wagon Drag Race! Cadillac CTS-V vs Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG
Station wagons are boring. Station wagons are, in the words of Motor Trend senior editor Jonny Lieberman, a "penalty you pay for falling in love and having kids." When we think of wagons, we think of some dorky thing Clark Griswold would drive. Motor Trend, our sister publication, is out to dismiss that notion, however, as it pits a Cadillac CTS-V sport wagon against a Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG wagon. Together, they make upward of 1,100 horsepower, can embarrass most sports cars, and can still get the kids off to soccer practice well enough...with all of their gear in the back. Lieberman calls them "superhero super wagons." They don't just do well in straight lines; they can handle turns, take corners at high speeds with ease. They're hyperfast luxury cars. But the Cadillac CTS-V and Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG are the "automotive equivalent of Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster." At $69,490 and $111,665, respectively, they are the rarest vehicles both GM and Mercedes-Benz make. Not even the $112,000 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 or $190,000 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG sell in fewer numbers. But which one is better? Sit down for the next nine minutes and find out.
