Head 2 Head Pits 2012 BMW 328i Against 2013 Cadillac ATS With Surprising Outcome

By Jacob Brown | September 26, 2012
It's finally happened. For months now, there's been all sorts of smack talk coming from General Motors that its new-for-2013 Cadillac ATS compact sports sedan could and would dethrone the reigning champ in the segment, the BMW 3 Series. For the BMW's part, the entire entry-level luxury segment has been carved around its 3 Series, with each competitor always striving to outgun it—and inevitably failing. From that, Motor Trend's "Head 2 Head" YouTube program concocted the Ali-Frasier equivalent, pitting the two against one another. Which one would be better? From the onset, it appears BMW underrates its turbocharged four-cylinder 328i, making much closer to the Cadillac ATS's 272 horsepower than its advertised 240 ponies. And around the handling circuit, the cars are once again neck and neck, posting nearly identical numbers. But then host Jonny Lieberman takes them on the back roads, slinging them around in much more casual driving. That's where the two start to separate themselves from one another. So which one is better? We're not going to spoil that one for you. We'll just say that the results are surprising to say the least. Check it out below.
