Head to Head Episode 3: Chevy Camaro ZL1 Squares Off With a Ford Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca
It's a tale as old as time, it seems. But nevertheless, people still pay close attention anytime a Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro line up against one another. This is the case as Motor Trend's third episode of Head to Head, with the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 squaring off against a 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 203 Laguna Seca at Inde Motorsports Ranch in Wilcox, Arizona. Motor Trend's resident professional driver Randy Probst jockeys both for a better lap time around the track, feeling out every bump and curve, while seeing which can best the other. We're not going to ruin who takes the best time around, but it's quite evident from the start who Probst favors after only a few seconds behind the wheel of each respective muscle car. The beauty of both the Camaro and Mustang are that they are both variants of its everyday-driver siblings. While both are outfitted for laying down laps at a track, out of the two being compared the Mustang 302 Laguna Seca strays further away from its everyday-driver sibling. Ford stripped out features like the back seat and added lighter seats in order to reduce weight, while the Camaro ZL1 retains a little more everyday friendliness while still packing a 556-horesepower punch under the hood. The Mustang 302 Boss Laguna Seca "only" has 444 horsepower, and some may argue that the Camaro has an unfair advantage thanks to its massive power advantage.
