Honda Pilot and Acura MDX Recalled Over Leaky Gas Tank

By Jacob Brown | February 23, 2012
American Honda is recalling 2012 model-year Honda Pilot and Acura MDX crossovers to fix a valve that may cause fuel to leak from their gas tanks. The recall affects 8,709 vehicles. In the affected crossovers, the vent shut float in the gas tank may not fully close. As a result, fuel has the possibility of escaping the gas tank, leading to an increased risk of fire. Although several other vehicles share components with the Acura MDX and Honda Pilot, those two vehicles are the only ones affected by this recall.
Honda will notify owners of recalled vehicles starting March 13, 2012 to inspect the fuel tank assemblies and replace them free of charge if necessary. Drivers or owners with any questions concerning the recall can contact Honda's customer service line at (800) 999-1009 or can contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's hotline at (888) 327-4236, referencing campaign number 12V063000.
