Ignition Episode 13: 2012 Dodge Challenger SRT8 Creates Its Own Adventure

By Jacob Brown | April 24, 2012
We don't mean to pour salt in the wound of America, but we've been facing a bit of a weather dilemma here in SoCal lately: Rain. It doesn't happen usually, and it's a little bit of an inconvenience in The Land of Perfect Weather. Sister publication Motor Trend discovered that firsthand when it attempted to test a 2012 Dodge Challenger SRT8. But rather than gather data from wet-weather evaluations, associate roadtest editor Carlos Lago had a better idea: Choose another adventure. After all, despite boasting 470 horsepower, the Dodge Challenger SRT8 has never been about performance numbers; it's been about the experience. Lago took it south of Los Angeles and the testing grounds of the old El Toro air base to more remote locations, places he wanted to go simply because he could. Along the way, he visited the Salton Sea, the desert to nail down his best Vanishing Point impression, and the city of Julian for pie. Yep, pie.
Lago perhaps best summed up the Dodge Challenger SRT8 when he said the car wasn't a time machine, despite its 1970s looks and size. Instead, it "brings the best parts of the past forward so we never forget them." Check out the Dodge Challenger below.

I agree with Carlos in the video... the challenger speaks freedom and demands adventure.... it's a great car that does merge the nostalgia of old with the tech and comforts of today.
