Jaguar F-Type Coupe Performance Models in Development

By | November 22, 2013
During the Los Angeles Auto Show, hints were dropped by Jaguar design director Ian Callum in regards to performance models in the new Jaguar F-Type Coupe lineup. With the debut of the new model at both Tokyo and Los Angeles, it's only a matter of time before an R-S and R-S GT version of the vehicle appear in the lineup. As the new Jaguar F-Type uses a new chassis design, the automaker plans to use it to its fullest. "Our obligation is to maximize the opportunity in the car in every direction. It is clear that the platform is very capable. Whatever the powertrain, the body will work with it," said Callum at the auto show. With the launch of the F-Type and F-Type Coupe, Jaguar is showing a new strategy, staggering its debuts to draw in more attention and to build excitement. Porsche currently does this with its lineup, and has shown much success because of it. Jaguar hopes to build upon that strategy, systematically debuting products.
In the past, Jaguar has made a habit of launching all models at once, but now the brand intends to have a plan for each model, and Jaguar global marketing director Steven de Ploey said, "We now have a well-balanced model cycle plan for each car, upward, downwards and sideways. With the F-Type, the R-S is one of those possibilities." Source: Autocar UK
