Jeep Gives Away Two Ferrarified 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8s, Marketing Ploy Sort of Works

By Matthew Askari | February 03, 2012
In an effort to build a little publicity, Jeep considerately gave away two 2012 SRT8 SUVs, decked out in Ferrari Red, to Formula One drivers Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa at the Fiorano circuit in Maranello, Italy. The two drivers were outfitted in their racing best and posed for the cameras in front of one of the Jeeps wearing large satisfied grins because hey! We just got a free Jeep! The 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8s are billed as the most powerful and best handling Jeeps ever. They also look pretty nice, too. Covering up that 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 engine, good for 468-hp by the way, is an aggressive-looking, race-inspired, something-else-with-a-hyphen, SUV. The front grille is matte black, the 20-inch wheels are also painted black (looks mean), and there are all manner of little Ferrari-style touches and inserts. A racing stripe gives credence to the zero to 60 in about 5 seconds, with a top speed of 160 mph. Director of marketing and operations for SRT, Beth Paretta, said "we're excited and proud to be able to share 'Ferrari-style' custom-built versions of the most powerful and best handling Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 ever with two of the most talented drivers in the world." And, we're pretty sure the drivers were excited and proud to be getting free tricked-out Jeeps.
