Korean Manufacturers Hyundai and Kia Continue Record Sales

Korean manufacturers Hyundai and Kia continue to deliver record-breaking sales. Hyundai rolled 59,561 vehicles off the lot in July, a 10 percent increase from July 2010. This is a record number of sales for the month of July, but record-breaking months are nothing new for Hyundai, which has now set seven consecutive record months. Kia also had a very successful July, recording a record-breaking 45,504 cars sold, surpassing last July's total by more than 10,000 vehicles. Leading the way was the Sorento crossover, which posted its all-time best monthly sales of 13,262 units. Other key performers were the Soul, Optima, and Forte. Hyundai: The Korean manufacturer's focus on fuel economy appears to be reeling in customers. The corporate average fuel economy was 36.3 mpg in July, a very high mark compared to other brands, and 38 percent of its total sales came from vehicles that achieve 40 mpg on the highway, especially the Accent and Elantra.
  • 10 percent overall increase in sales from July 2010.
  • Year-to-date Hyundai sales are up 23 percent from 2010, and up 36 percent at retail.
  • The 2011 Hyundai Elantra saw sales decline 17 percent from last year, due primarily to supply problems.
  • Sonata is Hyundai's most popular vehicle at 20,884 units sold.
  • Hyundai sold only 144 of its Azera sedans, with the model due to be replaced soon.
Kia: Like its fellow Korean brand Hyundai, Kia continues to break sales records. Kia's all-new designs are drawing customers, and the Korean brand is also focusing on quality, value, safety, and new technology. Kia hopes to continue the recent success as it rolls out its 2012 lineup, which includes the new Sportage, Forte, and the critically-acclaimed Optima midsize sedan.
  • More than 10,000 more vehicles were sold in July 2011 than July 2010.
  • The Sorento CUV posted all-time best monthly sales of 13,262 units
  • Kia Motor America (KMA) has achieved new monthly sales records for 11 consecutive months
  • The Sorento and Soul are Kia's best-selling products; 10,131 Souls sold, and 13,262 Sorentos sold.
