Lazy or Brilliant? Volvo Self-Parking Concept

Volvo is the latest automaker to experiment with autonomous driving technology, and with its latest concept parking is the focus. Audi has already shown a version of this technology, and Volvo is the latest to experiment with a self-parking car. Essentially, a driver can hop out, and let the car park itself. The feature will also explore returning a car to its driver. This would be handy if you were coming out of a store or the mall, and the car would essentially come pick you up, interacting with other cars and pedestrians in the area. Paragraphimage "Autonomous Parking is a concept technology that relieves the driver of the time-consuming task of finding a vacant parking space. The driver just drops the vehicle off at the entrance to the car park and picks it up in the same place later," said Thomas Broberg, senior safety advisor Volvo Car Group. The automaker also said that the next XC90 will feature autonomous steering, something we're expecting to see more commonly, and a controversial feature about which our staff has mixed opinions. But the question remains, is the self-parking technology brilliant or unnecessary? You can check out the slightly trippy, robotic video of the Volvo self-parking, below.
