Leaked: 2012 Scion iQ Priced at $15,995

By Jacob Brown | July 14, 2011
Pricing has leaked for the 2012 Scion iQ subcompact coupe that is currently having its media introduction in the U.S. The 2012 Scion iQ will carry a base price of $15,995 including the destination charge. Delayed due to the March 11 earthquakes in Japan, the iQ will reach our shores in four phases with the West Coast getting the car in October, Southern states at the beginning of next year, and East Coast and Midwest states following shortly thereafter. Like all other Scions, the iQ should come equipped with loads of standard features from the factory, such as a Pandora-ready stereo system and, like other Scions, accessories like body kits, accent lighting, and upsized wheels will be available from the dealership. Expected to be powered by a 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine making 99 hp and 91 lb-ft of torque, the diminutive car isn’t likely to win any races, but it should be good for about 50 mpg highway based on the performance of the version already sold in the UK with a six-speed manual transmission. The Scion will also have a continuously variable automatic transmission available. An electric model has been confirmed for 2012. Novel in size and shape, the Scion iQ will be the first direct competitor to the Smart cars sold here. The iQ, however, will come in a 3+1 layout designed to allow three passengers including the driver to sit comfortably and providing the driver more room to move his or her seat backward for additional necessary space. While we’re not sure if that layout will allow the likes of Shaq or Yao Ming to happily fit within the 118-inch-long car — shorter than the wheelbase of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, for reference — we’ll soon find out as the car starts trickling into showrooms.
