Leaked? 2013 Mazda MX-5 Miata Gets Facelift

By Matthew Askari | July 03, 2012
Fans of Mazda's all-time greatest selling sportscar are anxious to see what—if any—changes will be made to the 2013 Mazda MX-5 Miata, and it appears they won't have to wait any longer to find out. The forumgoers at MX5OC in the United Kingdom have found a brochure for the 2013 MX-5 Miata that shows a few noticeable changes to the front-end. Mazda has been trying to subtly tone-down the smiling-puppy face it introduced a few years back, and has modified the grille just enough to make a further departure, if only slightly. The fog lights have been adapted to more closely match to the blacked-out grille. Overall the changes are minor, but do subtly evolve the aesthetic. Mazda is widely expected to redesign the vehicle in a more comprehensive manner in the future. The Miata has won praise for its fun-to-drive spirit, and accessible price. The Miata employs a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which goes a long way to power the relatively light-weight frame. The Miata is also a philosophical forerunner to a new batch of sports cars coming out of Asia, including the 2013 Scion FR-S and its mechanically similar Subaru BRZ cousin, and even the larger 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe. Like the Miata this new crop of sports cars is championing driving dynamics over power and speed. So far, the reception to the new batch has been enthusiastic. Source: MX5OC
