Lexus Set to Launch New Hybrid SUV
For next year's Geneva Motor Show, Lexus plans to show a production-ready compact SUV to rival the Audi Q3 and BMW X1. The new hybrid model will be based off the Toyota RAV4, slotted under the Lexus RX 450h. The smaller SUV will be the automaker's first vehicle to compete in the segment. During this year's Detroit Auto Show, Lexus chief Kazuo Ohara commented on the concept and said it would be unveiled at the Tokyo Auto show in November this year. It will feature the Toyota hybrid drivetrain from the Lexus IS 300h, a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder gasoline engine paired with an electric motor. Many other automakers are scrambling to add a new, compact SUV to their lineup thanks to the popularity of vehicles like the Audi Q3, Nissan Juke, and Opel Mokka. Sales for the smaller SUV market are expected to grow more than 500,000 by 2015, up from 154,461 in 2012. Source: Automotive News Europe
