Mazda Recalls 2001-2002 Tribute for Brake Issue

By | January 30, 2012
Mazda today has announced a recall on 2001 and 2002 Tribute SUVs for a brake issue. The affected vehicles were manufactured between April 20, 2000 and July 19, 2002. The issue involves brake fluid that can leak from the brake master cylinder reservoir cap onto the antilock brake system (ABS) wiring harness connector. As a result, corrosion can occur in the electrical connector, which could melt, smoke, or possibly lead to a fire. Mazda will notify 2001 and 2002 Tribute owners, and dealers will replace the faulty brake master cylinder reservoir cap and modify the electrical system at no charge. Mazda advises that, until a repair has been completed, owners should park their vehicles outdoors. Mazda can be reached at (800) 222-5500; you can also contact the NHTSA at (888) 327-4236 or www.safecar.gov and use Mazda's safety campaign ID number 6712A. Source: NHTSA
