Mazda Tribute Recall Covers More Model Years than Ford Escape Recall

In the wake of the Ford Escape recall, which involves over 480,000 vehicles, Mazda is recalling its own Tribute compact SUV. Mazda's recall is not surprising. The Mazda Tribute is virtually identical to the Ford Escape. Thus it's reasonable that Tribute would have the same issues like the Escape, which involve pedals sticking in the SUV. Mazda's recall involves over 215,000 Tribute SUVs. The models were built between 2001-2006 and 2008. (Mazda did not build a model for 2007.) The Ford Escape recall involves model year 2001-2004. Mazda states it's recalling more model years than Ford's recall because it believes the later models were possibly also affected by the unintended acceleration problem. Mazda had recalled model year 2001 through 2005 Tributes earlier this year due to leaking brake fluids.
Mazda discontinued production of the Tribute last year. It has since been replaced by the all-new CX-5 crossover. Source: Detroit News
