Mercedes-Benz Recalls 2012 E-Class Coupe for Faulty Side-Impact Curtain Airbag
Mercedes-Benz is recalling 499 E-Class Coupes from the 2012 model year to fix a defective right-side curtain airbag. Cars affected were built from April 2 through June 29, 2012, with a seam in the headliner stitched differently in the fabric holding in the airbag than what had been used in earlier cars. As a result of the changeover, and in conjunction with high ambient temperatures, the airbag may not inflate properly. And that could lead to a heightened risk of injury in an accident. Because the same airbag unit is used on the other side, only inverted, the fabric stitching has not affected the airbag's deployment on the driver's side of the car.Mercedes-Benz will begin issuing a recall notice for the 2012 E-Class Coupe owners affected in November 2012, fixing the aforementioned cars free of charge at its dealerships. Should you have any questions regarding the recall, you can contact Mercedes-Benz at (800) 367-6372 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's hotline at (888) 327-4236 with reference to campaign number 12V492000 for more information.
