Mitsubishi Delivers First i-MiEV Fleet Vehicle

By Trevor Dorchies | December 09, 2011
Mitsubish Motors, in partnership with San Rafael Mitsubish, handed the keys to a 2012 i-MiEV over to its very first fleet customer, California Bay Area's City CarShare yesterday. City CarShare is a nonprofit organization that looks to better the environment through using alternative forms of transportation. By giving the general public short-term access to vehicles such as Mitsu's i-MiEV, traffic and parking problems can be reduced while a dependence on oil can be diminished as well. "We are very pleased to introduce the all electric Mitsubishi i into our fleet. This vehicle brings us one step closer toward our goal of having 50 percent of our fleet run on alternative fuel as part of our mission to decrease carbon emissions in the Bay Area," said Rick Hutchinson, CEO of City CarShare. While City CarShare was the first to get its fleet-ready i-MiEV, several other companies have also placed orders for Mitsu's small electric vehicle. This is good news for the Japanese auto maker, as it plans to introduce several more alternative-fuel production vehicles into its lineup. All of these are expected to enter the U.S. market in the next few years. The bay area is no stranger to alternative forms of transportation. CarShare, based in San Francisco, CA shares its turf with Zipcar, which recently began renting out vans with a program known as Zipvan. Both Zipvan and City CarShare are working towards cutting down on traffic and parking issues through giving the public an option when to have a vehicle. As of the 2010 population census, San Francisco has 808,976 residents and that number continues to steadily grow. What do expect out of the Mitsubishi i-MiEV as a fleet vehicle? Would it be your choice and if not, what hybrid or electric vehicle would be? Tell us your choice in the comment section below. Source: Mitsubishi
