Mitsubishi Hints at Expanding its US Lineup

Mitsubishi has decreased its lineup of vehicles in the last few years, leading many to question if it would remain in the U.S. market at all. At the 2013 New York Auto Show, the brand announced that in order to keep from going dark, it will introduce three new models and increase marketing. It launched its new product offensive with the 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage subcompact. Later on, Mitsubishi also hinted to another two vehicles coming soon. Last year, Mitsubishi sold 57,790 new vehicles according to Autodata, which is down almost 27 percent from 2011. Because Mitsubishi is part of a bigger global company, it isn't expected to turn around its performance overnight, giving it time to put in the proper ground work to help it succeed. "I can assure you we have no intention of pulling out of the US market. We're going to get it back on track within two or three years," said Masatoshi Hasegawa, executive vice president of the North American operations, at the 2013 New York Auto Show. Of the models that will be introduced, there is going to be a replacement for the mid-size Galant sedan, as well as a bigger SUV. In the meantime, the 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage subcompact four-door hatchback will hit the showroom floor later this year, boasting what Mitsubishi says is the best non-hybrid fuel efficiency of any vehicle in the U.S. Source: Detroit Free Press
