Mitsubishi Outlander is Premium; Plug-In Hybrid on the Way?
Mitsubishi claims to have coined the word "Crossover" when it first introduced the Outlander 11 years ago, but it's sad to think that this once relevant automaker is now resorting to such words as "will better comply with the times" when describing the third generation of its all new crossover. But by just looking at the picture of the newest Mitsubishi Outlander you see here, ahead of its Geneva Auto Show unveil, you kind of want the down on its luck brand to succeed. The newest Mitsubishi Outlander is not bad looking. In fact, it looks pretty good--and maybe the newest model really will be more compliant, and more premium than other crossovers in the segment. This, for sure, we won't know until we score some drive time, and we won't even see the actual crossover until the Geneva Auto Show, later next month. We don’t have all the details yet, especially as they relate to North America, but we do know that the 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander will offer a fuel efficient 2.0-liter MIVEC 4-cylinder (Europe will get an optional 2.2-liter MIVED diesel) in either front- or all-wheel drive, and it will be coupled with a brand-new six-speed automatic transmission. More importantly, the Outlander is forward configured for future updates, such as a plug-in hybrid that could significantly improve fuel economy.Inside, Mitsubishi is promising more premium safety and connection features, like a collision warning system, lane departure warning, dual-zone climate control, third-row seating, tilt and telescopic wheel, HID wide-vision xenon headlamps, and more. Though we know nothing yet concerning the engine power and fuel economy ratings, Mitsubishi says the newest Outlander will be environmentally conscious, but that it also will be an "engineer's car." That's sounds promising, and it had better be, especially with the newest Ford Escape and Honda CRV arriving in dealerships soon. More details to follow, from Geneva, as they become available. In the meantime, what do you think of the newest Mitsubishi Outlander? Source: Mitsubishi
