New Look for BMW X6

By | February 08, 2013
Within the next eighteen months, BMW plans to release an all-new X6. The second generation X6 will form an integral part of a range of sporting all-wheel drive models currently in development in Munich. Along with the revamped X6, the smaller and more affordable X2 and X4 luxury SUV models will be joining the line-up, which will raise BMW's number of four-wheel-drive models from the current four to six by 2016. With a more aggressive appearance than the current model, the X6 is moving further away from the body of the X5, both in detailing and shape. The new BMW X6 will also be about 1.3 inches longer, giving it more interior space, which was a weak point about the first generation X6. By using a higher percentage of hot-formed high-strength alloys, the composite steel structure of the new BMW X6 will bring with it significant weight savings. Adding to the weight saving, new axle assemblies will adopt a new electronic system to further weight reductions. A plug-in X6 ActiveHybrid is currently under development that will combine the turbocharged 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine with an electric motor mounted in the gearbox housing and a lithium ion battery in the floor of the boot.
