New V6 to power 2012 Cadillac SRX Crossover

It’s official. For some time now, we’ve all been expecting the upcoming Cadillac SRX crossover to receive a new “heart” ala V-6. Well, GM has announced that the 2012 SRX crossover will arrive in dealerships later this year with the 3.6-liter V-6 as its sole engine offering, replacing the model’s current 3.0-liter DI V-6. The larger, direct-injected V-6 sees duty in a range of other General Motors vehicles, including the Cadillac CTS and Chevrolet Camaro. Final figures for the SRX-tuned V-6 have yet to be finalized, but we’re told the engine will produce “at least” 300 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. The outgoing 3.0-liter engine made 265 horsepower and 223 pound-feet, which made for competent but hardly spirited performance. Cadillac tells us the 2012 SRX should offer numbers comparable to the 2011 SRX’s of 18/25 mpg (city/highway) rating. Pricing for the 2012 SRX will be announced closer to the on-sale date, which is later this summer. via General Motors / Cadillac courtesy of Automobile Magazine Staff
