By Matthew Askari | October 12, 2013
BMW has given us official details and pricing on the 2014 BMW 4 Series Convertible, which will hit U.S. showrooms early next year. Building on the previous BMW 3 Series Convertible, the 2014 4 Series Convertible is lower and wider, and will effectively replace the drop-top 3. The entry-level 428i Convertible will be powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine, capable of 240 hp. The 2014 435i will up power to 300 horses with its turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine. Both engines are paired to a standard eight-speed automatic transmission.
Earlier this week, a French forum had leaked photos of the 2014 4 Series Convertible, but we've now got official pricing as well. The 2014 BMW 428i Convertible will start at $49,675, while it'll take at least $55,825 to get into a 435i drop-top (both prices include $925 delivery fee). The rear-wheel-drive convertibles will be available with BMW's xDrive all-wheel drive system, though the 435i will get it later.
BMW enthusiasts will easily recognize the 2014 4 Series Convertible with the automaker's trademark double-kidney grille, four round headlights, and large air intake up front. New to the model are "Air Breathers," borrowed from the 4 Series coupe, positioned behind the front wheel arches to reduce drag. U.S. customers will also have a choice between the standard 4 Series Convertible and the M Sport performance line, Sport line, and Luxury line, each with special interior and exterior accents. Like the 3 Series convertible before it, the 4 Series convertible will feature a retractable hardtop. However, BMW says it's added a new "noise-absorbing" headliner to reduce aural intrusions. The power retractable roof takes 20 seconds to open, according to BMW, and can be lowered at speeds up to 11 mph. Like the "AirScarf" feature Mercedes-Benz offers on its convertibles, the 4 Series' available neck warmers blow warm air from the base of the front seat headrests. We're looking forward to getting behind the wheel of the 2014 4 Series Convertible, be sure to check back for our first drive impressions. Source: BMW
