Leaking power steering fluid is the source of a new BMW recall, which affects 2,642 vehicles. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, power steering fluid may leak onto the engine through the steering gear surface. The fluid may ignite on the hot engine and possibly lead to an engine fire. Model year 2012-2013 BMW X5 and MY2013 BMW X6 crossovers are involved in the recall. BMW states it will start notifying X5 and X6 owners next month to bring in their crossovers SUVs to dealerships, where the the affected part will be inspected and replace it if necessary for free. The NHTSA can be contacted by BMX X5 and X6 owners at (888) 327-4236 and reference campaign ID 12V267000 for additional information. They can also contact BMW directly at (800) 525-7417 as well. Note there have been no reports of accidents, injuries, or fatalities involving this issue. Source: NHTSA
