Over 8,000 Mercedes-Benz M-Class Crossover SUVs Recalled Due to Floor Mat Entanglement
In 2009-2010, Toyota recalled millions of Toyota and Lexus vehicles due to stuck pedals. Mercedes is now issuing a similar recall of its mid-sized M-Class crossover SUVs. The issue is the floor mats used in certain M-Class vehicles. According to the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration, that mats may not contour correctly to the crossover's gas and brake pedals. The Mercedes crossover's gas pedal may then become stuck and lead to possible "sudden acceleration" of the M-Class experienced by the Toyota vehicles. Specific Mercedes-Benz M-Class model trims affected by the recall include model year 2012-2013 ML350, ML550, and the ML63. Mercedes states it will start notifying M-Class owners to bring in their crossover SUVs to dealerships starting next month. There, the service department will replace affected floor mats at Mercedes' expense. Mercedes-Benz says current M-Class owners should remove the affected floor mats from their vehicles until then. The automaker can be reached at 1-800-367-6372. The NHTSA can also be contacted about this recall. Its contact information is 1-888-327-4236, and the Mercedes-Benz recall ID number is 12E028000.Neither Mercedes or the NHTSA have reported accidents, injuries, or fatalities attributed to this issue at the time of this post.
