Porsche adds a new Plug-in Hybrid to Panamera Lineup

With the addition of its first-ever plug-in hybrid, Porsches is adding two new extended wheelbase variants to the Panamera sedan. The Panamera S E-Hybrid produces 416 horsepower, and is joined by the Porsche Panamera 4S Executive and Porsche Panamera Turbo Executive in the revised lineup. All S models are now powered by 3.0-liter V6 twin turbocharged engines, giving the Panamera the broadest model range in the class. Improved performance, better fuel efficiency, and new technologies enhance the new Panamera even further. The hybrid improves upon its predecessor, and now features a more powerful electric motor, higher-performance batter, and is able to be recharged from home or public charging stations. The electric drive doubles that of the previous generation hybrid, producing 95 horsepower. When connected to a 240V power source, the battery can fully recharge within two and a half hours. From a standstill, the Panamera S E-Hybrid can reach 60 mph in 5.2 seconds, a half second improvement from the Panamera S Hybrid. Top track speed for the new hybrid is 167 mph, and can coast at higher speeds when the combustion engine is turned off, using vehicle momentum to generate electricity to move the vehicle forward. For the two Executive models, the wheelbases have been extended almost six inches, giving more seating comfort to backseat passengers. Also, both models have Porsche Active Suspension Management that combines performance and enhanced ride comfort. Instead of the naturally aspirated 4.8-liter V8 engine, all Panamera models will now feature the 3.0-liter twin turbocharged engine. All models will also be equipped with the seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK), except for the Panamera S E-Hybrid, which has an eight-speed Tiptronic S automatic. The new Panameras will be available later this year, and the Panamera Turbo S and Panamera Turbo S Executive will be available in 2014. Pricing for the next-generation Panamera starts at $78,100 and ranges to $161,100 for the Panamera Turbo Executive. Source: Porsche
