Priced: 2014 Chevrolet Spark EV Starts at $27,495 Before Rebates and Incentives
The all-electric subcompact segment is suddenly heating up. We recently got behind the wheel of the 2013 Fiat 500e and now, the 2014 Chevrolet Spark EV is joining in on the fun. Chevy has given its pint-sized EV a starting price of 27,495, but you can get it for as low as $199 a month when you lease it for 36 months. Depending on where you live, state and Federal rebates can lower the final asking price down to $19,995. California residents can get a 2014 Chevrolet Spark EV for an even lower price of $17,495 after various tax credits and incentives. Chevrolet says that the Spark EV will include an estimated range of 82 miles when fully juiced up, and touch the fuel economy equivalent of 119 MPGe. A 21 kWh lithium-ion battery pack will power the 2014 Chevrolet Spark EV and is covered by an eight year, 100,000 mile warranty. The 2014 Chevrolet Spark EV will also be available with the option to be compatible with the all-new DC Fast Charging Port, which was recently approved by the SAE. Chevrolet expects this option to become available shortly after the Spark EV's initial launch and can regain 80 percent power in as little as 20 minutes. If equipped with the optional DC Fast Charging Port, Chevy says that the Spark EV will be able to handle multiple recharges daily. If you're just going to stick with a 240 volt service, the 2014 Chevrolet Spark EV can get a full charge in about seven hours. Some standard features included on the 2014 Chevrolet Spark EV range from a 120 volt charge cord to three years of OnStar's Directions and Connections service. A wide variety of in-vehicle connectivity is also available on the electrified Spark such as Chevy's MyLink infotainment system, Pandora radio, and most notably, Siri Eyes Free (yes, that same cold lady who lives in your iPhone and doesn't like when you swear at her because she gave you the wrong directions). A seven-inch touch screen with integrated apps like the ones just mentioned is also an available feature. Being that the Spark EV runs solely on electricity, it's important to known where charging stations are and that's where the Spark EV Waypoint tab comes into play. This app can give you directions to the closest charging station and will let you know if the proposed route is too far away too reach. No word yet if there's a "turn around and go back to where you came from" option in said proposed route. The 2014 Chevrolet Spark EV is expected to first arrive at dealerships in California and Oregon in the middle of next month before being released to the rest of the country later this year.
