Subaru has announced pricing for the Impreza WRX and Impreza WRX STI, which sees a modest price bump over last year's models. For the 2014 model year, you can get a WRX four-door model with a five-speed manual transmission for $26,790. That price includes a destination and delivery fee of $795. If you want an STI model though, the cheapest you can get away with one is going to set you back $35,290, but that comes with a six-speed manual gearbox and the four-door configuration as well as plenty of other technological goodies.
Pricing of the 2014 Subaru WRX and WRX STI comes at a time were the segment it inhabits is feeling smaller by the minute. Both Ford and Volkswagen have begun invading the territory that Subaru has occupied for a while with its Focus ST and GTI models, respectively. However, Subaru will be the first to tell you that while the competition is formidable, the WRX is the only model of the three to offer all-wheel drive. For 2014, the Subaru WRX relies on a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder Boxer engine which is rated at 265 horsepower and mated to a five-speed manual transmission. More about that all-wheel drive system though. Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system on the WRX utilizes a coupling locking center differential that diverts power evenly to the front and back wheels under normal driving conditions. If you decide to go somewhere or do something in your WRX that involves wheel spillage, the system will send power to the wheels that have the best traction.
Standard features on the 2014 Subaru WRX include a sport-tuned suspension, 17-inch alloy wheels, and Bluetooth capability for music streaming and hands-free phone use. The standard All-Weather Package includes heated front seats, heated exterior mirrors, and windshield wiper de-icer. If you opt for the WRX Premium, you get features like fog lights, a power moonroof, and a body-color trunk spoiler if you go with the four-door variant. On the 2014 Subaru WRX Limited, you get all of the aforementioned standard features but you also get things like leather-trimmed upholstery and high-intensity discharge headlights. There's one optional package available on the WRX Limited and that's the navigation system, which is an additional $1,100. This will get you a 6.1-inch touch screen, voice-activated controls, XM radio, and SD card map upgrades.
As for the 2014 Subaru WRX STI, it draws power from a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine which is rated at 305 horsepower and mated to a six-speed manual transmission. It also features things like a performance suspension, a Multi-Mode Driver Controlled Center Differential (a variant of Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system that can better split power to the wheels that need it), and Brembo brakes.
