Meet the 2014 Mazda3, which made its official debut at the Xbox Launch party, and we have pictures! Before we get into all the specifics, you should know that the latest Mazda3 is loaded with technology, features a base 2.0-liter engine, rated at 155 horsepower, or the optional 2.5-liter engine, rated at 184 horsepower, and from a design standpoint, is a complete (and welcome) break from the one it's replacing.
Details on the 2014 Mazda3 continue to roll in, and we'll have a deeper dive for you coming up shortly, but for now, we know that the wheelbase has been stretched an additional 2.4 inches, making it 106.3 inches long. The width has been stretched 1.6 inches for the 2014 Mazda3, which creates 2.3 more inches of shoulder room up front, and 0.4 inches in the rear. The roofline has been pushed down 0.6 inches to help with aerodynamics without having headroom taking a hit in space. However, the back seats were dropped a tad and as consequence, rear seat legroom drops by 0.4 inches.
As seen in the pictures below, new active grille shutters direct air around the 2014 Mazda3 when the engine doesn't need to cool off. Speaking of the engine, as stated above, the 2014 Mazda3 will now be available with two different engines. No matter which engine you decide to go with, you have a choice of a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.
We'll have more information on the 2014 Mazda3 shortly, as fellow editor Jacob Brown is on the scene, so expect a deeper dive into trim levels and other technology (it was unveiled at the Xbox launch party) shortly.
