Recall Alert: 2002-2003 BMW 3 Series
Last week, BMW announced a recall on select 2002-2003 model year 3 Series, including the 325i, 325xi, 330i, 330xi sedans, 325Ci and 330Ci coupes and convertibles, as well as the 325iT, 325xiT Sports Wagons and M3 coupes and convertibles. The recall was issued due to a possible safety defect in the passenger side frontal airbag. It may be producing excessive internal pressure, causing the inflator to rupture when the airbag deploys. In the event of an accident that causes the front passenger airbags to deploy, the inflator could possibly rupture with metal fragments hitting, and seriously injuring the passenger or other occupants. BMW has begun to issue initial notifications of this recall, and once replacement parts are available, the automaker will notify owners to contact their local dealers. Dealers will replace the passenger airbag at no cost to the owners. BMW is available for contact by phone at (800) 525-7417 or online at CustomerRelations@bmwusa.com. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline is also available for contact by phone at (888) 327-4236 or online at www.safercar.gov. Source: NHTSA
