Recall: 2006-2011 Suzuki Grand Vitara and 2007-2011 Suzuki SX4

By | September 17, 2013
Earlier this month Suzuki Motor of America, Inc. announced a recall on select 2006-2011 Grand Vitara and 2007-2011 SX4 vehicles.  These models may have faulty occupant classification sensor mats that over time will fail, causing the front airbag to deploy in the event of an accident, regardless if a child or an adult is in the front passenger seat. It the sensor mats in the passenger seat were to fail with a child in the front seat, when the airbag deploys during an accident, the risk of injury to the child will increase. The recall is expected to begin in October. Suzuki will notify all owners of affected vehicles, and dealers will replace the front passenger seat cushion assembly, including the occupant classification sensor mat, at no charge to the owner. However, there are not enough parts currently available to fix all affected models. Along with notifying owners of the recall, a second notice will be sent out to indicate when the parts are ready for installation. Owners can contact Suzuki directly by phone at (800) 255-2550 with the recall number VD. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline is also available for owner contact by phone at (888) 327-4236, or online at
