Recall Alert: 2012-2013 Buick LaCrosse and Regal, 2013 Chevrolet Malibu Eco
Announced earlier this week, General Motors will be recalling select 2012 and 2013 model year Buick LaCrosse and Regal vehicles, as well as the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu Eco equipped with eAssist. More than 42,000 vehicles have been affected by the recall. The reason for the recall is that these vehicles may have an issue where the Generator Control Module, or GCM, isn't functioning properly. If left alone, it could cause a gradual battery charge loss, with the malfunction indicator light being activated. If driven, the engine could stall or the vehicle may not start. Burning and melting odors are also associated with this issue, possibly indicating a fire in the trunk. GM will soon begin to notify owners and dealers will test and replace the GCM as needed at no cost to the owner. Owners can contact GM by phone at (800) 521-7300 with the campaign number 13136. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline is also available for contact by phone at (888) 327-4236 or online at www.safercar.gov. Source: NHTSA
