Recall Alert: 2012 Honda CR-V, 2013 Acura ILX Recalled for Faulty Door Latches

By Blake Z. Rong | July 19, 2012
The doors on the 2012 Honda CR-V and 2013 Acura ILX can unexpectedly open if someone tries to unlock the car and pull the door handle, from the inside, at the same time. So to fix this, Honda is taking back 166,000 CR-Vs and 6,200 Acura ILXs in a widespread voluntary recall. The problem occurs when an occupant uses the power or manual door locks and then pulls on the door handle latch at the same time, which throws the door release cable into a state of confusion. The door latch might not secure the door when it's closed; it can also throw the door open if the door locks are used afterwards. The worst-case scenario is that the door can open unexpectedly when driving, but no injuries or accidents have been reported for this. Honda will begin notifying owners in the middle of August, and will replace the mechanism if needed. If owners want to check if their cars are affected, they can visit Honda's recall siteas well as Acura's—and if they want to talk to the company directly, they can call (800) 999-1009 for Honda or (800) 382-2238 for Acura.
