Recall Alert: BMW Bringing Back More than 500,000 1-Series, 3-Series, and Z4 Models
BMW announced earlier this month a recall on select model year 2008-2012 1-Series coupes and convertibles with a manufacturing date of December 2007 through July 2011. Along with the 1-Series, BMW is also recalling 2007-2011 3-Series coupes and convertibles manufactured from March 2007 through July 2011, 2007-2011 3-Series sedan manufactured from March 2007 through October 2011, and 2007-2011 3-Series sports wagons manufactured from March 2007 to June 2011. The last vehicle being recalled is the Z4 for model year 2009-2011, manufactured from March 2009-June 2011. The connector for the positive battery cable connector and corresponding terminal on the fuse box will possibly degrade over time. With this degrading, high current flow and heat from the electrical resistance can lead to a broken connection and power loss for the vehicle. This would cause an unexpected stall, potentially leading to an accident. The recall is expected to begin in March 2013, and BMW will notify all owners. Dealers will replace and secure the positive battery cable connector.
