Recall Central: 2012 BMW Z4, 2012 BMW 1 Series Active E, 2012 Chevy Captiva Sport
BMW and Chevrolet are issuing recalls, and owners of the specified models will be contacted this month regarding the potential issues. BMW is recalling 2012 Z4 models, as well as 1 Series Active E models, for a problem with the electric power steering assist system. The faulty electrical steering can fail to assist the driver, increasing the effort necessary to steer. BMW will notify owners and dealers this month. Dealers will replace the steering assist module at no cost to owners. For more information you can contact the automaker at 1-800-525-7417. You can also get more information on Safecar.gov, and use NHTSA campaign number 12V302000. Chevrolet is recalling 2012 Captiva Sport models for a parking brake issue. The parking brake cable may not be properly connected on some models. The recall doesn't affect retail customers, since the Captiva is sold only to rental fleets. However, GM will notify rental companies with affected Captiva Sport models around July 18. Dealers will inspect the cars and fix the problem if the issue is detected. Of course, this depends on how responsive the rental companies are to the recall itself, as there have been many reports of them ignoring or delaying recall repairs. Regardless, more responsible rental agencies can call GM (866) 694-6546, using campaign ID number 12217. Source: Safecar.gov, BMW, GM
